Our expert teachers at the Sydney Wine Academy (SWA) have global experience in the wine and hospitality industry.
SWA teachers use their experience to deliver world-class learning. They have worked as winemakers, authors, judges, sommeliers and business owners.
David is the Head Teacher and certified WSET Educator at SWA. David has 20 years of experience in various roles, including sommelier, restaurant manager, venue manager and general manager. He has worked in large hospitality venues in Australia and the UK.

Joe specialises in WSET courses at SWA. With over 20 years of experience, Joe has worked in hatted restaurants across Sydney. He enjoys sharing his knowledge at TAFE NSW.

Helena is a wine educator and research assistant at SWA. She holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma. Helena has international experience in the wine industry, working in Australia and the UK.

Sabine is a certified sommelier and has completed her WSET Diploma.
With over 20 years of experience in the wine industry, Sabine has worked as a brand manager, senior wine buyer and regional and national wine judge.

Philip guest lectures in the WSET Diploma program at the SWA. He has worked vintages over the past 40 years. He spent time with Australian Wine Agencies in London and was a senior product development manager at Tesco.
Philip later started his own business to help wineries, brand owners and importers grow their sales. He judges at wine shows and writes for wine industry publications in Australia and New Zealand.
Philip holds the WSET Diploma with honours and received scholarships for Burgundy and Vinho Verde. He completed the Master of Wine program in 1991.
Annette guest lectures in the WSET Diploma program at the SWA. She is Group Beverage Manager at Solotel and has worked as a sommelier and restaurant manager.
She judges at wine shows around Australia and takes part in trade tastings, presentations and masterclasses.
Annette has completed all levels of WSET. She won the 2014 Vin de Champagne Award (Professional) and was selected for the Len Evans Tutorial.
Jane guest lectures in Mastering New Zealand Wine at the SWA. She founded (NZSWS) and teaches courses across New Zealand and overseas.
Jane has judged at international wine shows in Australia, China and the UK. She also writes for publications like Gourmet Traveller Wine and Wine Pilot.
Jane holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits and is a Master of Wine.
Cameron guest lectures in the WSET Diploma at SWA. He lives in Southern Burgundy and is a professional wine judge. He volunteers as a mentor and educator with to support diversity in the wine sector.
Cameron holds the WSET Diploma and is a WSET Certified Educator up to Level 3. He is also a Valpolicella Educator, Sherry Educator and Barolo & Barbaresco Academy Ambassador.
Cameron is one of only ten Vinitaly Academy Italian Wine Ambassadors in Australia.
Daniel Airoldi is CEO of the import and distribution company Australia Wine & Spirits. Originally from Bordeaux, he has lived in Australia since 2000. He is known as a Bordeaux specialist.
Daniel is a member of the Académie de Bordeaux, La Commanderie de Bordeaux and the Commanderie du Bontemps. He is currently in Stage 2 of the Masters of Wine program.
Scott is a sixth-generation winemaker and international wine judge. He began his career at McWilliam’s Wines in the Riverina at age 14. He later completed vintages in Bordeaux’s Entre-Deux-Mers.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science from the Australian National University. He also has a postgraduate degree in Oenology from the University of Adelaide. He has research experience from the Australian Wine Research Institute.
As senior winemaker at Mount Pleasant Estate in the Hunter Valley, he crafted many award-winning Australian wines. Now based in Sydney, Scott runs wine tours and events. He judges at Mundus Vini in Germany and is completing a wine-focused MBA.
