    Statement of Attainment in Proficiency in Survival Craft other than fast rescue boats (CPSC)

    OverviewAbout this course

    Learn how to respond in an abandon ship emergency at sea. This course is approved by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and meets international STCW requirements (Regulation VI/2 and Code Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-1).

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • prepare survival craft for launch

    • pre-start and start survival craft and rescue boats

    • locate lifesaving and survival equipment as part of a vessel's operation

    • give orders to passengers to disembark

    • check survival craft and equipment for signs of damage and faults.

    • A nationally accredited Statement of Attainment.

    • AMSA-approved certificate to apply for licensing with AMSA.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • successful completion of the unit MARF046 - Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment and personal survival techniques (PST), as evidenced by your certificate or transcript

    • intermediate level fitness to manage physical demands

    • the ability to swim 50 metres and stay afloat for 5 minutes without a life jacket

    • the ability to work at sea as well as with people in difficult situations and circumstances

    • awareness of the AMSA certification requirements

    • the ability to attend practical assessment sessions on campus and/or related facilities

    • suitable clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) for your assessments. Contact your prospective campus for practical assessment locations, dates and clothing/PPE requirements.
